Mixed Doubles the Deciding W for All Matchups Saturday

Starting things off Saturday morning was the battle of the two California teams with the San Diego Stingrays taking on the LA Beat! In the first match of the day, the San Diego women’s doubles team jumped out to an early start taking the lead against LA. But, after not capturing a match last weekend, the LA women’s team fought back hard and ended up taking the W against San Diego in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. In the men’s doubles match, San Diego won in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, forcing a deciding mixed doubles match the went to a third set deciding tiebreaker with San Diego coming out victorious after capturing the tiebreaker 10-7 against LA. This was San Diego’s second win of the PPL season.

In the second team match-up of the day, the Las Vegas Smash faced the Toronto Polar Bears which also came down to a deciding mixed doubles match and was also the first mixed doubles match for Las Vegas of the season. Las Vegas ended up coming out on top against Toronto in the end to remain undefeated heading into Sunday’s team match against Cancun.

In the last team matchup on Saturday between the Arkansas Matrix and Cancun Waves, a rain delay forced them to finish play on Sunday. Showing once again that they are the team that goes the distance, Arkansas put on a show in the men’s doubles capturing the win with the Cancun women fighting back hard in their match to even things at one match each and forcing another deciding mixed doubles tiebreaking match. After a very lengthy, and intense match, Arkansas came out on top in the mixed doubles match and team matchup against Cancun.
