Former ATP Tennis Star Daniel Nestor to Be Advisor to the Team
North America’s first professional Padel league – is excited to announce that Ronnie Strasser, President and Chief Investment Officer of Strasser Asset Management, has purchased the league’s Miami franchise.
A graduate of the Harvard Business School (OPM), Strasser is a Principal of Phantom Developments (a fifty-year-old real estate company that owns and manages millions of square-feet of commercial industrial property and has built numerous condominium projects in addition to those underway) and will be the Managing Director of the PPL’s Miami Franchise. Strasser was also the President of Phantom Industries (an international apparel and hosiery company) that grew from 15 million dollars to 150 million dollars in annual revenue. Strasser is an avid tennis player and sports lover who has previously invested in professional sport. He is married to Sabrina Strasser, one of North America’s top ballroom Latin dancers, who is a well-known media figure.
“We are very happy to have someone of Ronnie Strasser’s stature associated with the PPL and we are very excited that he is bringing a franchise to one of the most important cities for the growth of Padel,” commented Marcos del Pilar, Commissioner of the PPL.
“I am grateful to the PPL for awarding me the Miami franchise and look forward to building one of the strongest Padel teams in North America,” said Ronnie Strasser, Owner of the Miami PPL franchise. “As a businessman, I recognize the tremendous opportunity I have been given and as a sportsman I can’t wait for the competition.”
Joining Strasser as an advisor to the Miami franchise is former ATP Tennis star Daniel Nestor who will advise on player relations, coaching, and recruitment for the team. Winning 91 men’s doubles titles during his career, Nestor won 12 Grand Slams, four ATP Tour Finals, and a gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
“I love Padel and believe that Miami is going to be the epicenter of the sport. I am very excited to be working with Ronnie Strasser and the Miami franchise,” added Daniel Nestor.
Known as a sporting paradise in South Florida, Miami is home to some of the best professional sports teams and events in the world including the Miami HEAT, Miami Dolphins, Miami Marlins, the Miami Open, NASCAR events at the Homestead-Miami Speedway. Miami has also hosted more Super Bowls than other city. A premier destination for sporting events, the PPL will further grow Miami’s professional sports roster by showcasing the most entertaining sport in the world.
In the weeks ahead, the PPL will be announcing other key cities that have been awarded franchises. These teams will ignite a Padel phenomenon in the U.S. and position the PPL at the forefront of the Padel explosion that is happening in North America.
The PPL’s inaugural season will kick-off in the Spring of 2023 (with dates to be announced in January) and conclude with the PPL CUP Championship. During the first season, each team will consist of two male and two female players and will follow the international scoring format.
The PPL’s mission is to create a premier sports league providing a national stage for the sport while generating nationwide awareness and excitement for Padel. Something that has never been done before, the PPL will provide players and fans with a new platform that showcases Padel and grows participation in the sport.
Currently, Padel has over 25 million players worldwide and is growing in popularity in the U.S. with the number of Padel courts set to double in 2022. Over 8 million players are projected to be playing in the U.S. by 2030. The PPL will enable players, coaches, team owners, facility owners, broadcasters, fans, sponsors, and brands to all be involved in, and capitalize on, the sport’s explosive growth.
