SBJ: Just as we’re getting used to the pickleball craze, international favorite padel is also growing quickly in the U.S.

The news story from Sports Business Journal discusses Padel Haus in Williamsburg, New York, which houses the only four publicly accessible padel courts in the state. Padel is a variation of tennis predominantly played in doubles, using stringless racquets, on courts that are three-quarters the size of tennis courts, and encased in a glass wall enclosure similar to squash, where the back wall is part of the game.

The sport isn’t widely spread across the US, with only a few hundred courts present in just nine states, as recorded by the U.S. Padel Association. The most significant clusters of padel clubs are located in Miami, Austin, Houston, and Southern California. There is some debate over the correct pronunciation of the sport’s name, with some saying it like “paddle,” while others pronounce it “pah-del,” rhyming with Adele.
